Lana’s story has circulated the internet. The 3-year-old Labrador was left at a shelter by her family. She’s now found the loving family she’s been waiting for.
Lana was photographed sitting on a dog bed in the Mighty Mutts rescue shelter in Toronto, Canada, with her head hung low. She looked visibly crushed after being turned in with her siblings as a small puppy. She hadn’t been adopted, and she was very sad.
After Lana became a world-renowned star, donations and adoption applications came pouring in, all to help provide Lana with a loving, safe home. After she was adopted, the owners turned her back in and she was again feeling crushed inside the animal shelter.
Right before she was set to receive euthanasia, another family adopted her. The family lives on a farm, which gives Lana a ton of free space and open air to enjoy all the world has to offer. According to her new family, Lana is having the time of her life!
While this story is an amazing one, it also brings attention to a world-wide issue facing the United States. Almost every day, more than 2 million animals are killed in shelters because there is simply no room to keep them, or shelters don’t have enough money to care for the animals.
This is partially due to the fact that many people choose to purchase dogs from breeders rather than adopt dogs or cats from shelters. Animals in shelters then end up being euthanized because no one wants them, and that is a shame. Check online to find a local animal shelter near you. Fill out the adoption paperwork and go find a furry friend to give a safe and happy furever home to!
