If you’ve seen the jaw-dropping Netflix original series, you know that it covers some pretty heavy topics including sexual assault, mental health issues, gay rights, and more.
Fans were shocked to hear the first few words of the trailer for season 3, “Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) is dead.” Bryce Walker is known as the athlete who has a father who pays for everything and can always get him out of trouble.
He sexually assaulted Hannah Baker, and who knows how many other girls. One thing viewers know for sure is that he assaulted Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe) at a party while she was black-out drunk. It is also shown that he likely sexually assaulted his girlfriend at the time, Chloe (Anne Winters).
“I think you’re going to see a redeemable side to Bryce,” Winters said to US Weekly. “No one deserves to die. No one deserves to be raped. No one deserves to go through a lot of the things that people go through on our show. You’ll see a lot of different sides to him.”
Prentice, who plays Bryce, said that his character does change in the third season, but that doesn’t change what he has done in the past. The season follows the days, weeks, and months prior to Bryce’s murder.
As you know, season two left cliff-hangers on several side-plots of the 13 Reasons Why story. We are left wondering what ever happened with Tyler, how Clay is coping with Hannah’s death, and much more.
The season includes the addition of another student to Liberty High who actually narrates the season, much like Hannah narrated the last two seasons. However, due to the ties that the other characters had to Hannah and to Bryce’s assaults, all seem to be suspects in Bryce’s murder at some point, mostly Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette).
“As the mystery of his death engulfs the town, there are numerous suspects in focus,” according to the season three description. “But were any of them truly capable of murder? And who is the new girl? Police are determined to get to the truth, but with a web of secrets and lies this tangled, will anyone be found guilty?”
The third season of 13 Reasons Why dropped on Netflix on Aug. 23, 2019. Go check it out to unravel the mystery and learn more about Byrce Walker and how he changed before he was murdered.
