Where is Apple’s Airpower? When Apple announced about its development back in 2017, the company said its wireless charger mat would hit the market in 2018.
Following this, the company also published the preview of the wireless charger. It will charge not only iPhone but also other Apple’s products like Apple Watch and AirPods. However, here we are in 2019, and no new updates or talks about the hyped wireless charging mat from Apple.
There are rumors that Apple has been working on “a fix” and had to push the launch to later dates. Some sources from Hong Kong’s ChargerLAB said that the production of AirPower wireless charging mat has started. Hence, it may hit the market anytime now.
This rumor started circulating on the web after a tweet from ChargerLAB on January 11, 2019.
Breaking: AirPower is finally coming. We just learned from credible source in supply chain that the manufacture Luxshare Precision has already started producing Apple AirPower wireless charging pad. Luxshare Precision is also the maker of Apple AirPods and USB-C cables. pic.twitter.com/UqgWIAh3sx

If true, we could potentially expect this long time due product reaching the customers later this year.
Apparently, the delay with production and release has something to do with a number of technical challenges. That includes overheating due to multi-device feature.
Another issue seems to be related to sensors on the pad. The AirPower would be the first wireless charger to handle three devices at once. Hence, it needs to be able to intelligently manage its charging system and find a way to allow different devices to communicate with each other.
These tech issues confirms again that Apple oftentimes prioritizes design over functionality. But to be fair, this is not the first time Apple delays a product launch. We have seen delays for HomePid, AirPods, and AirPlay 2.
