5 Tips for Staying Safe at the Pool and Beach

While having a quick getaway at a resort, being too carefree can be an easy thing to do. The beautiful beach, inviting pool, wonderful sceneries, and laid-back vibe can make you forget taking certain precautions to stay healthy and safe while you enjoy your day out.

You may also unintentionally overlook the importance of keeping your loved ones safe and protected while having a fun day at a resort.

To have a truly wonderful, stress-free getaway at a beach resort, you need to be prepared for the whole activity. This includes taking precautionary measures to keep everyone, including yourself, happy and healthy during your one-day holiday.

To ensure everyone has a fun day at a beach resort with pool access in Abu Dhabi, follow these helpful tips:

1.   Pack all the swimming essentials

Aside from bringing your swimwear, flip-flops, and other clothing essentials, make sure you pack a few other items that you need to have a fun and problem-free day at a resort.

If you have young kids, pack their floaties, life jackets, and other flotation devices.

The other essential items you need to bring are a pair of sunglasses, a beach hat, a towel, sunscreen, and lip balm – things that you need to protect your body from the harsh rays of the sun and avoid sunburn.

Since you are going to the beach resort with your family, ensure they also pack these items. Bring one or two extra bottles of sunscreen and extra lip balms as well.

2.   Apply sunblock frequently throughout the day

Sunburn can quickly turn a fun and relaxing getaway into a painful stay at the resort, which can last for several days after your trip. As such, you have to be on your guard against this health issue.

Packing enough bottles of sunscreen for your getaway will help you and your loved ones avoid getting sunburn. Additionally, make sure everyone reapplies it every 30 minutes or at least an hour while outdoors.

If you just came from swimming or are sweating heavily, put on liberal amounts on your face and all exposed parts of your body.

Make sure you remind everybody to do the same as well.

However, even if you and your loved ones apply sunblock frequently, you have to instruct everyone to avoid staying under the sun for too long.

3.   Know and stay within the safe and designated areas

Resorts have designated areas in their beachfront spaces for their guests. Make sure you know where you and your family can stay or walk and which parts to avoid when you frolic or explore the beach.

Additionally, know the designated swimming zones on the beach and pool. Instruct your younger kids to stay within the shallow areas so that they can be safe.

And even if you or your child can swim, don’t simply go anywhere. If you are on the beach, be aware of rip currents. These are water hazards that can be dangerous even for the strongest swimmers.

4.   Always keep an eye on your kids

Although going on a getaway also means finding time to relax and have fun, you need to look after your children, especially the younger ones, all the time. This is something that you, your spouse, and other adults should do while at a resort.

As a rule of thumb, a parent or adult should always be within arm’s reach of a toddler or young child, whether they are at the pool or beach and even if they are wearing flotation devices.

Additionally, you also need to keep a close eye on older kids. They need supervision as well even if they are strong swimmers since they may try to do some flips and tricky dives, which can be dangerous for them and the people around them.

To get some “me” time even if you are with your family, take turns with your spouse to look after the kids. Spend an hour or two at the pool bar in the Abu Dhabi resort then have your partner relax here after you’ve gotten your fill of drinks and relaxation.

Also, play with your little ones, explore the beach, and take a dip in the pool or ocean with them. By doing so, you get to have fun and bond with them, too.

5.   Take frequent breaks

Lastly, although everyone is having fun swimming, floating, or playing on the beach, try to tear yourself and your kids away from the pool and ocean every hour or so.

During these breaks, have everyone drink water or fresh fruit juices or shakes. This will help you and your loved ones feel refreshed and energized and avoid dehydration.

Additionally, use these breaks to reapply sunblock and encourage the kids to go to the bathroom if they need to. Ask them if they feel hungry and give them something light to munch on.

Lastly, during these breaks, dry your kids’ ears (and yours) with a towel to lower the risk of swimmer’s ear, a bacterial infection that is caused by excess moisture in the ear canal.

With these tips, you and your loved ones can get the most from your getaway, even if it’s only for a day. You won’t have to worry about everyone’s health once you’re back home.
